The company was founded in 2008 by two students from Stanford, Kamil Kurmakaeva Faldin and Maxim, which are currently among the top 100 Russian millionaires online magazine Kommersant. Work on the creation of a startup they started while studying in the United States. The original idea of the project was based on the creation of a single platform (windows), which will bring together in one place all the products from independent stores. The business model has changed, and in the autumn of 2011 Wikimart opened its own online shop.
